Hack Western is Western University's annual student-run hackathon, bringing together 400+ attendees for 36 hours of creation and innovation. As one of the largest and oldest hackathons in Canada, Hack Western has an enormous scope of design requirements, from web and mobile products to merchandise design (t-shirts, stickers, nametags!)
My Project
I led the development of Hack Western 10's products (website, application portal, and live site for event attendees). My goal was to effectively brand the event to attract corporate sponsors and create a seamless user experience for event applicants and attendees.

April 2022
Hack Western 9's design team starts brainstorming themes for the hackathon through traditional whiteboarding and using FigJam
May 2022
We landed on the theme imagination becomes reality - shoutout to our design team, Sabrina (lead), Kelly, Emily, and Leah!
June - September 2022
We launched our newly branded website for Hack Western 9 (including tablet and mobile) with the help of Hack Western's Web Team and started social media campaigns
August 2022
I represented Hack Western at MLH Hackcon, a hackathon organizer conference held in New York, where I met students (including other designers!) from all over the world

October 2022
I took a lead on designing screens for our Live Site, at web and mobile site where verified hackathon attendees go to see the day-of event schedule, map of the venue, browse on-site mentors, and more

Leading the Hackathon
February 2023
I became Co-Director of Hack Western for our 10th anniversary alongside Maaz - check out our medium blog about taking on the lead roles!
I'm leading with a focus on design and community engagement
March - April 2023
Maaz and I hired a team of 26 to run Hack Western 10 this year, leading logistics, web, and design teams

May - July 2023
I led the Design Team to launch our theme this year, overnight campfire - inspired by the fireside chats that come about during anniversaries (shoutout Bonnie and William on design!)

August 2023
Seven of us Hack Western 10 organizers attended MLH Hackcon in New York to build connections and learn from fellow students on how to effectively plan the best weekend-long in-person event possible
September 2023
I led my team at Hack the North at the University of Waterloo and club fairs at Western University to spread word of Hack Western 10 to students and potential sponsors
October 2023
Our team had a little pizza social and got to work on launching our hacker applications - this year we received 1100+ applications from university students across Canada
November 2023
We hosted 400 attendees on Western's campus - thank you to our hackers, mentors, sponsors, and judges that made it all possible! Special shoutout to our organizing team and past organizers that came out to support 💜
